The Secret to Great Modest Shorts

Ok, number one: Fife Photography made me look AMAZING in these pics. I swear I am not actually this pretty. If you are looking for pics that make you look super great, and people to take them that are super fun and wonderful to work with, you really should check them out (they travel!): Fife Photography

Number two: THANKS!!!! to everyone that posted on Thrifted Thursday!! We had 8, EIGHT!! I just get so excited when lots of people post because I love to see deals that people get. It is exhilarating {ok, now you know I am a super thrifting nerd}.

Number three: .....well....there was really just those two. On to the outfit post :)

As always, below there are is a selection of things similar to what I am wearing. Usually they are too expensive for my tastes, but it gives you an idea of things you can look for while you are thrifting. Also, because it will be difficult/expensive to find high-waisted shorts that are long enough, try buying some vintage pleated/high-waisted pants from the thrift store and just sewing them into shorts. It is super easy, just chop a little long than desired length, fold it up and sew along the side seam and now you have a nice pair of shorts :)

Photo Shoot Sneak Peek

Here's a sneak peek from my photo shoot yesterday. I needed some pics for an article, but didn't feel like I had any that for worthy for a magazine, so my wonderful friends were sweet enough to take some pics for me. They did an amazing job and made me feel so beautiful. Thanks guys. Fife Photography is fabulous!

A Few of My Favorite Things

When I usually post an outfit, I give a little box at the bottom of similar things from Shopstyle, in case you want that look. Well, in the process of looking for similar items, I occasionally find treasures that I put in my mental wish list. These are those wonderful things:

Juicy Couture at ShopStyle
This fringe necklace is awesome. I love the colors, the way it fades and how they added a chain at the top. All of it just makes my day.
Christian Louboutin at ShopStyle
Belt buckles. I am loving shoes and purses that have a belt buckle design to it. And these shoes have just the right touch of girlie and tough. I need these shoes.

Asos at ShopStyle
It is tough finding a one-piece swimsuit that is cute/unique. I loved the style of this one. Course, I would prob find one with straps because I would be super paranoid the whole day that it would fall down. This would look cute as a halter, and easy to make into one.

See by Chloe at ShopStyle
Love the colors, love the asymmetry, love this sweater. What more can I say? This top is fabulous.

Casual Friday

I am a huge fan of my blue plaid shirt. It is one of my comfort items {like food} that I go to on a stressful, or lazy day. And then I can fluff it up with some colored sandals, a top bun, and a great necklace and nobody would guess that I hadn't taken a shower! {Just don't get too close}

So ignore the creepy joker face I am making, and sorry there have been so many indoor pictures. Unfortunately during tornado season we have a lot of high winds and it is not exactly a favorable time to take pictures :)

So how about you? What is your comfort clothing item? Your go-to when you just don't feel like doing much of anything?

Felt Book Finished

Remember when I posted this tutorial? Well, I finally finished one {actually, I finished two}. Turns out the one I made for my friend's coming baby is WAY cuter than the one I made Link, for two main reasons: 1. I did Link's first and learned some valuable lessons before moving on to the next, and 2. My friends baby is going to be a girl, and I love boys, but seriously, my mind works in girly flowers and pink glitter so it was much easier to get creative with hers :)

Funny how, as girly as I can be with my crafts and such, I want a house full of boys. I think I have enough emotions to fill this house on my own, so I will stick with boys who punch each other and then get over it. Not to say I wouldn't find some way to make cute bows and headbands for a girl if I had one :)

{Of course, we had to add the triforce...if there are any Zelda geeks like us out there who get that!}

{Just in case he forgets his name, I have it plastered all over this book...}

{There are little pockets that hold the shapes that go in those outlines, and colored flowers that match the flower outlines. Ya know, so I can be teaching him something}

{This little scene is for the fruits and veggies that I made. I kinda like it :)}

{Here are some of the fruits I made. I think they turned out pretty good.}

And so there is my finished book. I almost wish I would have taken pics of the other one because it was a little more put together :) Ah well, my kid is second class, what can I say?! {ok, that is not true for anyone thinking "gosh, that's cruel!", I actually kinda love my kid a LOT}

Have a fabulous Wednesday! I cleaned out my garage yesterday, so I think today with be a relax day.

The Conspirator

Matt and I were able to go on a date, since his mom and dad were here (they left today..boo..), so we went and to see The Conspirator. Basically? I LOVED it. It is seeing shows like that one that remind me why I want to be a lawyer when I grow up....or when Matt finishes school, which ever one happens first :)

So here is my casual Monday date night attire. I love this gold clutch. It is vintage {It once belonged to my mom, then went to the Dress-up box, then to my collection of purses where it has been loved and cherished ever since}.

{Tee and pants: Walmart, shoes: Hancocks, clutch: vintage, earrings: F21}

I really like this outfit. It was comfy and casual, but I still felt sexy in it with the gold accessories and skinny jeans. Perfect for a spring date night with my hubby pants.

Matt's Surprise

Well, I surprised Matt for the 3rd year in a row with a "5-year-olds" party. The theme was "you think you are old, but you don't act like it!" lol. Everyone that came was GREAT and had awesome gag gifts. Everyone there made it an awesome party, and my bestie Shawna helped me plan and execute it the Thursday before his party Friday. It was a super fun time.

This is what I wore for his birthday (of course, the hair is in a ponytail):

{Cropped pants: altered thrifted, shirt: Aeropostale, undertank: Gen-X, Shoes: Ross}

I forgot just how much I liked these cropped pants. I think I need to make some for spring too. Maybe a light beige color, or maybe a light blue. Who knows! I'm sure you will see the finished product though :) And here is a link to the cropped pants tutorial from a couple of months ago.

{Thrifty Thursday} Share Your Treasure!!

Sorry I have been MIA this WHOLE week! I have been crazy busy with my new job trying to get this manual formatted, but I didn't want to leave you hanging on Thrifty Thursday, because I LOVE to see what treasures you have found :)

This is a terrible picture, but it has in it TWO of my favorite thrifty treasures: my high-waisted pants, and my pink cropped floral silk shirt. Both vintage and both wonderful :) This picture really does not do them justice, sorry guys.

So let's see your treasures!!!

Ugly String Hair, Check

These pictures are the perfect result of an insanely windy week. There was no getting a good shot with this hair, and you probably wouldn't believe it, but I actually curled it that morning, only about 2 hours before I took these. Ah well, you get to still see the outfit :)

I took one of the colors from my blazer and found a patterned shirt with the same colors (yellow in jacket, yellow patterned shirt). That is one easy trick to match prints without feeling like a clown :) Try it out, let me know what you think!

DIY Felt Book

Isn't this little felt book the cutest thing you ever saw? This is a tutorial by Dear Lizzy and I am going to try it out today. I was hoping to make a really cute Sunday book for Link because he doesn't necessarily enjoy spending 3 hours in church, sitting quietly (and longer when I have meetings).

**side note: funny I am talking about him not wanting to be quiet because he is literally screaming at the top of his lungs throwing a tantrum right now, lol. I can't help but laugh at him when he does this because he is such a little drama king. And before you feel bad for him, check for tears....nope, no tears, just a tantrum! **

So anyway, maybe I will get this finished tonight and will post pictures!

A Maxi and Cropped Top

I have been seeing a lot of cropped tops lately, and I love how it looks over a maxi dress. It adds layers, dimension, and it is an easy way to modify the dress to be modest. Now not only do we have the fitted tee underneath, the cardigan, and the blazer, we have the cropped top to throw over it.

{Cardigan: Kohls, Maxi and shoes: Ross, cropped sweater and belt: thrifted, necklace: gift from Grandma Crandall}

This cropped sweater is a tighter cropped shirt, but this look would look awesome with a loose cropped tee also, minus the belt!

Have a wonderful Friday!!!
