Thai and Jaws

Well, I had a fabulous Valentine's Day. Matt surprised me by getting a babysitter and taking me out to our favorite Thai restaurant. We even got crazy and got our favorite appetizer there. They are these amazing spring rolls, with an even more amazing sauce to dip them in. It was perfect. Then we came home and Matt let me pick the movie to snuggle to. I chose Jaws. I can only handle so much "mushy mushy" for one day, so I ended it with some bloody limbs. Did you know that Jaws was written based off of a true story about a rogue shark in the 50's in New Jersey? Matt and I watched a documentary on it (mmm, yes we are documentary lovers. Super senior of us), anyway, it was really good.

After dressing up yesterday (which I forgot to take a picture of, o'well), I decided a sweatshirt was in order today. So how did I make a sweatshirt work for daywear, without looking like pajamas? Easy, just added some wedges and a layer of shiny/pearly bracelets :)

Definitely not the only way to wear a sweatshirt without looking like pajamas, but it worked well for me today :) Now I am comfy, but still feel cute.

For Anyone Wanting to Wear Cuff Pants for Valentine's

Remember these flares I altered into cuff pants just the other day? Well, they are the perfect "date" pant so I thought I would give you the tutorial today in case you wanted to make them for a special Valentine's dinner :)

So here is a picture of the pants originally. I loved the pattern, but wanted to change the look. 

So, the first step is to find a pair of flares to alter. You want them to fit you a little big so that they are baggy at the top, not by a lot, maybe just 1 or 2 sizes bigger. Then decide where you want the bottom of the pants to be, keeping in mind that we are going to add a cuff, so I cut mine so that I cut mine about 5 inches above my ankle so that the bottom of the cuff would end right at the top of my feet. 

So you cut accordingly, and now you have two scraps to make cuffs out of. Now you will want to decide how long to make the cuff (I did mine about 3-4 inches long), and how wide. I wanted my cuff to be tight, but since it isn't a stretch fabric I had to make sure that I was able to get my foot in after I sewed it. So measure the fabric around your ankle, leaving some room (maybe an extra 2 inches), and see if you can get your foot through the hole before you sew the cuff. Then add a little extra to the width to allow for the seam. 

So now you have your too cuff pieces. Take one, and line up the raw edges, with the right-side of the fabric facing together. Sew up the raw edge. 

You should have a cuff that looks similar to this. Now you just sew the cuff onto the end of the pants where you cut it off. Obviously the pants are going to be wider than the cuff (at least you want them to be to give the "cuff" look), so you just pleat the pants and pin to the cuff as you go. Then sew them together and voila! You have cuff pants.

Happy Valentine's Day

This was Matti's gift this Valentine's Day (or at least the part I want to share with everyone!). We have been sick, so sugar was out of the question, and then I saw this fabulous idea from Little Inspirations: Healthy Valentines.

I don't know why Matt insists on making a goober face every time I take a picture of him.

Well, I was about to ask what special presents you got your soul mate, but then I thought more about asking that question, and thought, on Valentine's Day? Not a safe question to ask :) So I will just end with a Happy Valentine's Day, all!

Cuff Pants, I LOVE Them!

So, here's the scoop, I have been wanting some cuff pants since Melissa wore them hosting "Bachelor Pad". They were crazy and different and I felt like I needed them. Well, I am still poor, so I thought my best bet of having them would be to alter some pants of my own into cuff pants. The problem? I have pretty much altered the crap out of all of my pants, and didn't have the heart to give them surgery one more time, so Link and I went to Goodwill yesterday and while I was there I found these fabulous pants (black with floral design) that were just a little big for me, and flares. I would NEVER have worn them as flares, but the minute I saw these fancy pants I knew I had to make them into cuff pants. So, that is what I did! What do you think?

Floral Shirt

Ok, so I told you I would be lazy, but it turns out that down-time with Matt home meant that I could finally make the shirt that I have been thinking about for a while. I found this floral fabric on sale at Walmart while I was picking up the fringe and have been dreaming of creating something fabulous with it. I have been thinking of different shirts that I could make because I have been wanting a floral shirt for a while that was loose fitting, then when I saw this dress that Sisters 4 made I couldn't stop myself from thinking that my shirt-to-be needed ruffles around the neck as well. Because the fabric is so "busy" I added another color to the ruffle so that you could see the ruffle (because at first it just blended in and lost the affect).

So, here it is: **please ignore the faces I am making. I have cold sores and so my lips don't want to move**

I had the ruffle end part way in the back to add to the "rough" look of the shirt. 

Ta-da! So that is the shirt that resulted from fabulous fabric and free time. Thanks Matt for watching Link while I did this, and thank you mom for the sewing machine that you gave me many Christmas's ago.

Fringe Necklace Tutorial

I realized I haven't done a tutorial for a long time, and so I thought I would share this little diddy that I found in InStyle magazine. It was a tutorial for a fringe necklace. It is so easy I did it in less than 15 min, and I am in love with it. I might just have to get ready today so I can model it, but the chances of that are kind of slim because it is another snow day here in OK and so the town has shut down, which means, Matti is home from school! That equals cuddle time in front of the fire and us playing Resident Evil 5 together (not in front of the kid of course).

Ok, so I will model it tomorrow if I don't manage to do anything with myself today :) But at least you can start with the tutorial, that is so out-of-this-world easy.

First:

You will need:
1. 1/4 yard of fringe
2. 18 inches of chain (or less depending on how long you want it)
3. A clasp to match your chain

Second:

Take the chain and separate 1 of the jump rings. Take that ring through part of the fringe top (not to close to the edge of the fringe)

Third: 

Do the same thing to the other side, but add the clasp to the jump ring after you have strung the ring through the fringe. This part is actually optional, I just want to vary the length of my necklace so I added the clasp and some extra chain so that I could do that. 

You're done!

See, I told you, out-of-this-world easy :) And isn't it adorable?
