Taste the Rainbow Ya'll!

My husband just wrote that title. It has quite the story behind it, but I warn you that you will see a side of him you may never have before....Ok, you have been warned...Matt has an rap identity, and he calls him Skit-L (yes, he even went so far as to decide the spelling, and I got corrected on it while I was typing). Hence "Taste the Rainbow". Yes, I know how gay it sounds, but what might possibly take that to the next level is he has a rapper friend (here's your shout-out Stdrov) and his name is Special Sauce. Together they take gay straight men to a whole other level.

Yep, pretty much I love my man, even if he is a TERRIBLE rapper, who never rhymes and who can't keep a beat or tune to save his life. I'm pretty thankful for a man with such a sense of humor, and one who know's his weaknesses but just uses them to make people laugh (we will play Rock Band, while he sings and we usually laugh so hard we can not even play our other instruments).

And so there is a new insight into my hubby. I guess that is what I get for staring at the computer too long, wondering what to write about.

A Very Happy Birthday To Me

Happy birthday to me? Oh, thank you! It has been a very good birthday indeed. Mom took me out for breakfast/lunch, and we played Speed Scrabble for...oh..I dunno...2 hours (my family loves loves games of any sort). Also, I finally had time to paint my nails and use fun nail stickers, which is exciting because they have had chipped polish for almost a month (tacky much?).

Also, I have taken pictures with the other birthday outfit gift I got. Bet you can't guess what it was......A CARDIGAN! hee hee.  I just can't help myself. Especially it's seducing stripes. It was love at first site. I think it just might last forever.

(Cardigan: JC Penney, Tee and scarf:  Walmart, Pants: JC Penney, Shoes: Gen-x)

Now I am off to party with the fam some more and eat some yummy cake! (also, my kid is trying to eat grandma's decorative rocks so it really is a good time to jet before I am collecting pebbles from his poop.)

Easy T-shirt and Jeans mix

This post is coming to you a little later than usual because I have been spending the day with my bestie here in Oklahoma. While I was getting ready to go out with bestie, I was doing my hair and got a rat's nest. This probably wouldn't bring back any memories to the normal person but it brought fun memories back to me.

My best friend since we were 5 (Manda, that's what I call her, it is actually Amanda) and I used to collect really weird things: rocks, new carpet shavings....rats nests. Yes my friends, rat nests. You know, when you are brushing your hair and you get a know and then you brush the knot and it is this ball of hair in your brush. That is a rat's nest. I had gone over to Manda's house after school and she showed me her new rat's nest collection. I was so intrigued (as I usually was at anything Manda was doing because it always seemed so cool) and so when I brushed my hair the next day and got a rat's nest I got super excited about it and ran it over to her house to add to her collection. But, she looked at me all grossed out and said "um, this is just for MY rat's nests". I was not saddened, I just went home and started collecting them myself. The good news? I DO NOT have that collection anymore, even though I am sure it would sell for millions. I have moved on to cooler collections like stamps and coins. You know, normal ones that you aren't embarrassed to show people.

Now to my outift:

T-shirt: Walmart, belt: thrifted, cardigan: thrifted, scarf: Christams present, boots: TJ Maxx, jeans: JC Penney

Want to make a cowl out of a scarf that you already have? Take the scarf ends and then tie them together with ribbon. Voila! Easy peasy cowl. That is what I did with this scarf :)

What Is On The Inside Is What Counts

This is what I have to remember when I am feeling this way. Today just felt like an ugly day, but I usually feel like this when I have EARLY (7:30, which means up by 6:45) morning church meetings because I only give myself 10 minutes to get ready because sleep is my most favorite thing in the WHOLE world (cough...oh yeah...except my husband and son of course). So basically I got up this morning and just threw what seemed to be the warmest attire I had in my 26 for 26 mess (because all of my 26 for 26 is in a pile right now), threw my hair in a pony and ran out the door. Then people were so sweet to tell me I looked great, which on a day like this didn't really persuade me to feel that way, even though I very much appreciate what they said :)

So, I come home from church and decide that I will grudgingly take pictures of my outfit just because I love you guys and quickly take them so I can change into jammies. Then I come to post those pics and for some reason they didn't load right and I always delete them while they are loading so it seems they are lost forever. You know people say "so ugly you broke the camera". I think I may have broken the camera. great.

It is about this time that I start thinking that I need to remember that it is what is on the inside that counts. Not to mention we had a lesson today about realizing your talents, and I need to be a good example to my sweet little Young Women. So, here I am remembering that I have a super awesome Heavenly Father who loves me even when my hair looks like poop in a bun, and who gave me the special talent of laughter to laugh off all of my less-than-perfect week. I am really good at laughing. In fact, one time someone told me (Jared) that I laughed at everything, and that whenever he was with me he felt super funny. He realized my talent.

And so it is, I am laughing off my eventful week and my YIKES hair. But since I still don't have pictures to show you, I put a box together that shows you what I wore without actually having to break my camera again.

Stripes and Florals Meet Again

I told you I loved this combination, but now I have found a different way to wear it. With my new thrifted scarf. Well, sort of new. It's been a couple of weeks, but I haven't been able to wear it too much, which is another reason why I am excited about this combination :)

(scarf: thrifted, shirt: Ross, cami: Gen-X, pants: thrifted and altered, shoes: gift from mamasita)

Yeah, this silly little man wouldn't quite gettin in the picture, but since he is a sicky poo with some sort of baby strep throat, I couldn't be a mean mom and trick him out of being in the shots like I normally do.

I had to do a closeup since the scarf and shirt are my favorite part of the outfit.

Ok, how to create this outfit on your own? It doesn't have to be a striped/floral combination, but if you want to try something new, experiment with a scarf and wear it like a bandit (that's what I think of when I see scarves like this, and it makes me happy). Also, if you haven't noticed already, I have this thing about matching my accessories; even though I am wearing a gray and black striped shirt, the scarf has some brown and cream flowers so I went with brown earrings and cream shoes. This is a simple way to pull an outfit together without being too matchy-matchy. Lets see how you wear your scarves...put a link in the comment section, or send me a pic via email.

Wannabe a Cowgirl Baby

Ok, so I don't necessarily look like a cowgirl, but have you noticed that I have an infatuation with plaid shirts and my boots lately? If you were going to ask for any clothes this Christmas, I would definitely make sure to mention plaid because it is super fun to layer with.

Recognize the pants? Yep, they are the newly skinnied ones :) I'm a big fan...of myself apparently since I made them...what I really mean to say is that I am excited they ACTUALLY turned out right. That makes two pants for the books.

Here are some cheap (all under $25) items to help you create this look on your own. Christmas maybe? If anything you can follow my example and take a peak at what is in style and then thrift it. Half of my outfit for this post was thrifted. I loves it, but that is because finding something awesome at the thrift store is like digging for gold. So satisfying when you find it.

Done!....For Now :)

Ok, so decisiveness is not one of my strong points, but Matt had to ban me from the computer yesterday because I was stressing myself out (This is slightly ironic if you were to know my husband), and so I am stickin to this one! … Until I think of something more fun…No! just this one…mmm…ok, this one (this exhausting monologue is what goes on in this head of mine).

On to fashion, which is what this blog is really about! I had a lot of fun picking out this outfit for Stake Conference today, so I thought I would share it :) It is feminine and has a vintage feel which is something that I love because I love the styles of the 1920’s (and 50’s and 60’s and 70’s…you get the point).

The best part? You can create this outfit too if you are a pack rat like me. I have had this skirt since start of high school and I have always thought it was cute, but I had it stuck in my head that I could only wear it with a plain shirt on top of it because that is how I wore it when I first got it. But since I have been on a mission to wear things in my closet that I haven’t touched in a while I put together this little diddy and I was excited about how it turned out.

Want to make this outfit more every-day wear? Easy peasy, just throw on a pair of jeans or slacks and you are set to go.

Two Skirts? Why Not!

So, I wore this outfit to church yesterday, not thinking much of it, but I got a lot of compliments on it and one of my friends even asked "was that one of the things on your blog?". The answer was "no", but followed with "will be now" in my head :)

Really what happened was I didn't want to wake my husband up so I had to grab my skirt in the dark. Not knowing if I was grabbing the right one I just grabbed the two that felt like it might be it. I thought both of them could work for my outfit, but it seemed like it was missing something, and if there is anything I have learned from the latest fashions is that once you think you have added enough to your outfit, throw on one more accessory. So using that advice I threw on both skirts :) If is a very easy look to pull off.

Wrap a belt at the top, throw on some warm tights, ruffle shoes, and a loose fitting shirt (that maybe you have added flowers to from reading the flower tutorial earlier? This black one was mine) and you are ready to go :)

What Have You Got To Say?

Alright, I originally started this blog hoping that people would send in their fashion woes and we could help solve them together. This way, we are taking things out of our closets, that we already have, thereby looking great without spending any money.

So here is my challenge to you!! First, go in your closet. Find something that you have not worn in a year (or longer if you are a pack rat like me : D ). Decide what it is about that article of clothing that you do not like, or maybe the reason you have not been wearing it: is it too short, too long, sleeves are ugly, out of style, immodest, etc.

Next send me, via email (modestfashionsense@gmail.com): 1. a picture of the item with details about why you don't wear it, and/or 2. a description of the item and why you do not wear it.

Awesome! Lets get crack-a-lackin and put those forgotten clothes to good use!

Comfy Cozy Sweater Dress

I had so much fun with my mom while she was here, and it was nice having a craft buddy for a couple of days. We were consumed by fabric, ornaments, thread, hot glue and practically every other craft item on the planet (aka, my heaven). Point being? Lots of crafts, not lots of blogging. But now she is gone...sniff sniff...so my craft filled office can become a blogging office once more.

I went back to my closet to find something that I don't wear enough of and the item of the day is my sweater dress. I loved it when I bought it, but then I started getting irritated because the sleeves were shaped weird (no picture, sorry. Camera and I are not getting along today) and so I more or less put it on the shelf of "one day" which also means "forgotten". So I pulled together some inspiration:

(I love this sweater dress. I am actually lusting over it at this very minute.)

This is cute with the leggings, turtle-neck underneath, big belt, and bangles.

Love the boots idea.

A couple things I noticed while looking for inspiration: All were wearing belts around the waist, leggings underneath, and cute jewelry. So I put these things into action while sprucing up my sweater dress, but I still had to figure out how to mask the ugly sleeves (straight sleeves that look like they are 4 sizes too big for my arm). While I was looking through a magazine the answer came to me. A cardigan (yes my "fix-all" has come to my rescue again). This way, it covers up the sleeves, and makes the sweater dress look even cozier than it already is. Not only will it help with the sleeves, but keep it in mind if you feel that your sweater dress hugs to close to those curves.

What do you think?

I have got the belt, the leggings and the bulky jewelry. I had too much of gray and black so I wanted to add some color with the jewelry.

Now for the shoes, I added some pumps if I was to be going out with Matt on a date.

But since I am not today, I wanted to be comfy so I just threw on some boots and off I go. Now I feel chic without feeling like I am wearing too much or anything uncomfortable which is always my goal as you well know :)
