I "like" you on facebook! of course!

26 for 26

Have you heard of 30 for 30? You can check out the link, but basically it is this: You pick 30 items from your closet, shoes count, accessories do not, and you can only wear those items for 30 days. AND, you cannot shop for yourself for those 30 days. This means that you have to get creative with what you already have and saves you money. Both are things that I want to practice, so I have decided to do this myself. Only, Christmas is in 26 days (who's counting?) and I know I won't be able to resist those brown adorable shoes that I know I am getting, so I have revamped it to 26 for 26. I picked 26 items from my closet and I will only wear those for 26 days. I started with today's outfit so you can check that out. I am thinking that this will probably help with packing as well because we are going to be in Utah for 3 weeks and I usually go overboard, but now I don't have a choice (good thinkin Ruby).

So here is my line-up:

(Pants, left to right:  Bootcut jeans-JC Penney, Thrifted Abercrombie altered skinnies, khaki altered skinnies-Aeropostale, Skinny jeans-Kohls, Black leggings-Walmart) 10 cool points if you can find the lone Hot Tamale. Yum.

Jackets/shirt I forgot to put with other shirts, left to right:  Gray cardigan-thrifted, purple tee-walmart, Striped ruffle jacket-thrifted, Black blazer-Dress Barn

(Skirts left to right:  Black floral dress- thrifted, Gray Skirt- TJ Maxx, Floral brown-so long I can't remember)

(Shoes left to right: Black booties- Thrifted, Tan heels- Forever 21, Black Ruffle Heels- Ross, Boots- TJ Maxx, Black boots- Target)

(shirts left to right: Ruffle Plaid shirt-walmart, Tan shrug shirt- Thrifted, Gray striped shirt- Ross, Blue Plaid- Walmart, White and gray stripes- Ross, White collar striped- hmmm, good question..., blue and gray sweater- Thrifted AE, Red shirt with flowers- I made it (don't look too close, you might be able to tell), Gray cami- Gen-X)

So there are my choices for the 26 for 26. Want to do the challenge also? Check out 30 for 30 for all the rules.
Wannabe a Cowgirl Baby

Ok, so I don't necessarily look like a cowgirl, but have you noticed that I have an infatuation with plaid shirts and my boots lately? If you were going to ask for any clothes this Christmas, I would definitely make sure to mention plaid because it is super fun to layer with.

Recognize the pants? Yep, they are the newly skinnied ones :) I'm a big fan...of myself apparently since I made them...what I really mean to say is that I am excited they ACTUALLY turned out right. That makes two pants for the books.

Here are some cheap (all under $25) items to help you create this look on your own. Christmas maybe? If anything you can follow my example and take a peak at what is in style and then thrift it. Half of my outfit for this post was thrifted. I loves it, but that is because finding something awesome at the thrift store is like digging for gold. So satisfying when you find it.

Make 'Em Skinnies

I have finally found time to make the skinny pant tutorial, and I have to say I was a little giddy that you wanted to know how to do it (or at least 5 of you did) so I have been excited to do it. I am super scatterbrained, and my husband says I am terrible at explaining things, so I will try my best to make this make sense.

  • Pick your pants. Somewhat stretchy is awesome, but you can do it with any you just have to adjust your measurements accordingly (ex. not stretchy-add an inch, stretchy-exact measurement).
  • Make your measurements:

You will want to measure your upper leg, mid upper leg, and just above the knee. You do not want to make the measurements with pants on, but I thought you would appreciate that I kept mine on for the pictures.

  • Write those measurements down and then divide them all in half.

  • Now you are going to make the appropriate markings on your pants. You want the inside seam to match. The outside seam won't match up perfectly, but that is because your backside is always a little bigger than the front, so this is ok. Just make sure that the inside seam matches.

  • Once your inside seam matches up, lay the pants flat. You are going to measure from the outside inward (as in the picture). Half of my measurement was 10 inch, so I put the 10 on the outside fold, and make a mark with my marker near the inside seam.
  • You will do this for all three measurements that you took: your upper leg, mid upper, and right above the knee.
  • Once you have all the marks, you connect the dots be just drawing a line from one dot to the next with your marker.

  • Now sew down that line, remembering to always make sure that the inside seam matches up.

Only sew to your upper knee mark.

  • Once you have sewn to that mark, try them on and make sure that they fit snug like how you would want your skinnies to fit.
  • If they are too loose, them in just a little more.
  • Once they are the right fit, turn them inside out again and we will continue.
  • Measure your calf. You are going to take half of that measurement and make the mark down at the ankle, starting from the outside fold just like how you did with the upper leg.
  • Now you are going to draw a straight line from the upper knee dot down to the mark you just made at the ankle. (your should hem the pants up before you do this, even they need to be shortened).

  • Now sew down that line like you did the upper leg.
  • Try them on! If they fit, good job and you are all done, just cut off the excess leaving a little extra in case you have to let them out later.
  • If they are a little loose, just sew them in slightly.

Voila! Finished! Hopefully that all made sense :) And then you have your finished product, here is mine:

Lets see your handy work! Send your finished pics to my email.

Holiday Fashion:  Little Black Dress

The little black dress is woman's secret weapon. Our curves are accentuated and, if you are like me, you feel like Audrey Hepburn (which is always a good thing). I was on a search for cocktail dresses when I thought about just dressing up that LBD that you might already have. The best part is, there are lots of cute LBDs that are modest.

(Little Black Dress: $17.99, Mustard tights: $6.80, Pink tights: $12, Black Studded Heels: $15, Black Wedges: $25, Black and Silver Bib: $14.50, Silver Cubes Bib:  $24.99, Chain Bib: $24.80)

So you grab your black dress, throw on some colored tights to add some flavor. Me? I love mustard yellow. If there were a word greater than love I would use it for these tights. Then we grab some black heels. I am lusting after the wedges in this pic. Ok, now the thing you need to remember the most: the bib necklace. This is what is going to make that simple black dress really pop, which is what you will want it to do if you are going to a Holiday party. Now you are all set to go! Not only are you going to look classically sleek and sexy in your LBD, but you add some flavor with your tights and bib necklace and you are chic and fashionable too.

I have to admit, I am really excited about this one :) Now I will have to find a New Year's Eve party just to wear it to!

My OU Family

In my house, we are serious OU fans, and since today is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, game of the season I thought it only fitting to sport my OU gear with the fam. So here is my take on how you can look cute in your "sports fan" gear.

I grabbed Matt's OU sweatshirt, threw on a khaki blazer and rolled up the sleeves of both. I don't know about you, but I love the look of the rolled up sleeves. It kind of adds a preppy feel to it. Then I threw on my favorite jeans, rolled up the bottoms and put on some cream shoes. Wedges of course to say "yes, I love football, but I am still a girl".

Link lookin super cute in his Sooner gear. This sweater has a football on it. So cute on my little man.

My boys together :) Boomer Sooner! Obviously Link is super excited about being in all these pictures.

My favorite picture. They are so cute together.

So here are my suggestions for the Sooners before the game:

1. Landry, SHAVE THE STACHE! You know you play terrible when you don't
2. Broyles, just do what you do because you are AWESOME!
3. Murray, run as fast as you did last game, and avoid being a bulldozer. You are supposed to get around the other team, not go through them.
4. Kevin Wilson, PLEASE do not run running play after running play. Spice it up with some passes and trick plays for heaven's sake because right now our offensive is the most predictable in the Big 12.

NOW GO GET 'EM BOYS!!! Boomer Sooner!

Thanksgiving Awesomeness

I don't know about you, but I sure had a GREAT thanksgiving. It was full of yummy food, lots of friends, gaming, and one of my new favorite movies, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (which my friend so cleverly said made sense since his name was "pilgrim" and it was Thanksgiving...mwahha...it's ok to pity laugh this one, because we all did). Basically we were at our besties from 2pm-2am (good thing they have a port-a-crib to stick Link in, so he zonked at 9). We had fried turkey which was scrumptious, and I had a whole big turkey leg all to myself. Not to mention, we some how tricked poor Sade into giving us all massages.

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you do anything fun?

Red Flare, Made Skinny

I am super excited about these pants. They are thrifted Abercrombie and when I found them they were BIG flares, but I really liked the color. So, I brought them home and sewed the inside of the legs to make them into skinny jeans (well, corduroy technically). I'm going to be honest and say that it was probably the easiest alteration yet, and only took me about 30 minutes.

So, what do you think of my new red pants? (and we are keeping in mind that I am no model!)

(hmm, I kind of look like I have to pee here...oops)

Pretty sweet, right? Yeah, I am kinda bragging on this one because they turned out better than expected. Want me to make a post on how to make pants into skinny pants? Post a comment to let me know! Who knows, maybe I will do it whether you like it or not. I am kind of crazy that way.

Stripes and Floral

I have to admit that I am in a slight love affair with the combination of stripes and florals. It is one of the easiest ways to mix prints without looking too WOWZA (and not the good kind of wowza).

You know me, I love neutrals, so that is basically what my closet is full of. I have been trying to add more color, but lack of funds has really hindered this mission of mine. But if I had more color in my wardrobe, this is what I would do with it (gosh I love this stylebook stuff!)

Alright, grab any ol' floral shirt. Find some fun colors in it (for this one I found oranges and red). Then grab a cardigan in that fun color. Pair 'em up (they will thank you for it). Because this is a bold look, just pair it with some jeans. I like the braided belt as you saw in my pic (which you can find at just about ANY thrift store), so wrap the belt around your cardigan mix and then throw on some boots of a similar color as the belt. Voila! Super easy, just like I told ya :)

Holiday Fashion: Fun Pants

This post may seem to be for the brave and courageous, but I assure you that you can do it!

Ok, we have got you fun pants. Anything shiny, shimmery (splendid) and just a little bit too fun to wear just any ol' day. These can be jeans, skinny pants, anything with a little spunk. Then grab a ruffly shirt to add that feminine touch, and cover that with an adorable blazer. You do not want the blazer to match the pants, we are going for fun and exotic here :) Then the necklace, don't you just love this one? Nothing that I put in these collage looks are over 25 dollars so they are safe to check out because we aren't all made of money! - oh wait, maybe that is just the Phd widows life - either way, the more money we save, the more we can spend, am I right? Ok, so back to the look, the last thing to talk about are the shoes. As in the other posts, your safest bet is to throw on some shoes that match the pants if they are a bootie because they elongate your legs.

Tada! Holiday fashion #3 at your disposal. Now I better get pictures of you fine ladies in these looks, that is all I ask!

New Buttons!

Woot woot! I finally have some buttons to call my very own. They are just to the left under the bio and ready for the pickin.

Done!....For Now :)

Ok, so decisiveness is not one of my strong points, but Matt had to ban me from the computer yesterday because I was stressing myself out (This is slightly ironic if you were to know my husband), and so I am stickin to this one! … Until I think of something more fun…No! just this one…mmm…ok, this one (this exhausting monologue is what goes on in this head of mine).

On to fashion, which is what this blog is really about! I had a lot of fun picking out this outfit for Stake Conference today, so I thought I would share it :) It is feminine and has a vintage feel which is something that I love because I love the styles of the 1920’s (and 50’s and 60’s and 70’s…you get the point).

The best part? You can create this outfit too if you are a pack rat like me. I have had this skirt since start of high school and I have always thought it was cute, but I had it stuck in my head that I could only wear it with a plain shirt on top of it because that is how I wore it when I first got it. But since I have been on a mission to wear things in my closet that I haven’t touched in a while I put together this little diddy and I was excited about how it turned out.

Want to make this outfit more every-day wear? Easy peasy, just throw on a pair of jeans or slacks and you are set to go.
